Caffeine and Weight Loss

It’s no secret that America has a weight problem; nearly two-thirds of adults are overweight (which includes those obese) and every year, approximately 300,000 adults die due to unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity.

So it should come as no shock that the use of supplements for weight loss is common (perhaps rampant is a more fitting word) among the adult population.  But what, besides their professed claims, makes these supplements so popular?  Some attribute the use of caffeine can expedite weight loss (whether its use is safe or not is an entirely different story).

Caffeine is an ingredient commonly found in supplements.  It is marketed as a weight-control agent that can enhance energy, suppress appetite, and even burn fat.  Studies conducted show that individuals using a weight loss supplement with a low amount of caffeine had greater weight maintenance than those who consume more caffeine.  However, that latter group with high-caffeine consumption experienced greater weight initial weight loss.
