Calling James and Mary

Ever wonder how common your name is?  Nerd that I am, I certainly do and have even looked it up.  I currently rank #89 for most common name in the states (definitely something to be quite proud of if you don’t mind not being unique or anomalous). 

James is the #1 most common first name in the United States, with 3.32% of men named this – 4,064,550 males.
Mary is the most common female first name, ranking #4 overall (3,351,975 females).  That’s a big number, right?  What’s even more astonishing, or perhaps amusing, is that there are 11,025 males named Mary.  Poor ol’ chaps (my apologies if you are a male named Mary reading this post).   

 As for surnames, I’ll give you one good guess what #1 is…yep, it’s Smith.  1 out of every 100 people you meet will have that last name.
