Ridiculous Millions

The signing status of the 2008 NFL Draft first-round picks has been released, revealing some stunning contract terms.  The top 5 NFL picks were as follows:

  • Jake Long (Miami OT) 5 years, $57.5 million
  • Chris Long (St. Louis DE) 6 years, $56.5 million
  • Matt Ryan (Atlanta QB) 6 years, $72 million
  • Darren McFadden (Oakland RB) 6 years, $60 million
  • Glenn Dorsey (Kansas City DT) 5 years, $51 million

It seems pretty ridiculous that football players make millions of dollars while the average brain surgeon makes about $500,000 a year.  Go figure.  I guess it’s partially our own fault (speaking on behalf of the fans).  The more we’re willing to pay for tickets, jerseys, hats…. The more money the team owners are making, and the more money they’re willing to pay their players.  So stop going to football games? I don’t think so.
