Nearly one half of all pregnancies in the United States are unintended. An unplanned pregnancy can be a frightening and emotional experience for any woman, despite her age and race. The Department of Health and Human Services hopes to decrease the rate of unplanned pregnancies to 30% by the year 2014. Doing so would entail finding more efficient forms of contraceptives and increasing awareness and intentional contraceptive use.
